- Council's Role in the Waterloo SSP and the Project Review Panel
- According to the Precinct Declaration The Department of Planning and Environment has established a Project Review Panel for the Nominated State Significant Precinct - Waterloo. It also provides some information alongside the initial announcement that gives us information about the City of Sydney Council role.
- Waterloo Nominated as State Significant Precinct kicks off Master Planning
- Waterloo has been nominated by the NSW Government as a new State Significant Precinct which formally kicks off the master planning of the site. Residents have been advised by staff involved in the master planning that the master planning will commence with a month of capacity building with consultation workshops planned to commence towards the end of June/beginning of July. The Communities Plus website will be updated soon as the Department of Planning and Environment’s website. A newsletter to residents is planned for next week.
- Building a platform of opportunity for Redfern/waterloo redevelopment
- On 2nd March 2017 REDWatch held a session on Health Impacts and redevelopment – what do we need to know? The input to this session was provided by Elizabeth Harris, an Associate Professor in the Centre for Primary Health Care and Equity at the University of NSW and Director of the Health Equity Research and Development Unit, Sydney Local Health District. - The Aboriginal Housing Company (AHC) has submitted revised plans to the Department of Planning and received the Department’s requirements for changes to the Student Housing element of the already approved Pemulwuy Project. - Community gathers to remember Ross Leslie Smith (1941–2016)
- Alexandria Town Hall was packed with tenants, friends, agency workers, bureaucrats and politicians for a celebration of Ross Smith’s contribution to his community on November 18 reported the South Sydney Herald of December 2016.
- Urban Transformation Study - 21 November 2016
- The UrbanGrowth Central to Eveleigh Urban Transformation, which we have been waiting much of 2016 to see in the end did not go through Cabinet as initially expected. Instead it was released in conjunction with the Greater Sydney Commission Central District Plan which makes reference to it.

- Peter Phibbs on New York Affordable Housing and Inclusionary Zoning
- This short video features Sydney University's Prof Peter Phibbs talking about Affordable Housing and Inclusionary Zoning in New York and Australia. The Video includes and comments from American experts about the New York approach and the response to it. This video was used to introduce the topic to a REDWatch Affordable Housing meeting on December 1 2016. The video runs for 4'20".
- REDWatch UrbanGrowth Central to Eveleigh and Housing Diversity Policy Statement - May 2016
- The REDWatch UrbanGrowth Central to Eveleigh and Housing Diversity Policy was finalised on May 2 2016 following indications that UrbanGrowth's Central to Eveleigh Urban Transformation Strategy would not propose a significant response to the areas affordable housing needs. These concerns were borne out in late November 2016 when UrbanGrowth unveiled their strategy which showed only a target of 5-10% on the government owned Central to Eveleigh land.

- Catherine Gilbert is a research associate from Sydney University’s Urban Housing Lab. She is from Canada and has experience in the UK. - Dr Louise Crabtree is from Western Sydney University. She has has expertise in community-driven housing and Community Land Trusts. - With sky rocketing Sydney property prices Housing Affordability is a big problem. Both the NSW and the Australian Governments have been slow to consider anything other than a build more housing solution under the misapprehension that the Sydney property market works like the banana market. Here we have collected together some material on Affordable Housing Issues including on what models have been used overseas to address the problem that could be considered in Australia.
