Central to Eveleigh – Some REDWatch Concerns
Prior to the June 2014 UrbanGrowth NSW (UG) focus groups REDWatch raised some concerns about the process proposed with UG. Subsequemtly REDWatch produced the document below to place our concerns in the public domain and to make these concerns available to other groups and stakeholders. The paper below seeks to explain these concerns and put them on record.
BEP2 on South Eveleigh Public Housing
BEP2 also covered Public Housing at Eveleigh. This housing was originally zoned by the Redfern Waterloo Authority in their first Built Environment Plan (BEP1) which covered other sites including parts of the South Eveleigh Railyards. In BEP1 the public housing and adjoining open space remained at existing height. BEP2 proposed to introduce new heights and floor space ratios for South Eveleigh. As Government has now included Eveleigh Public Housing in Central to Eveleigh REDWatch has extracted the key details from the Draft BEP2 to provide easy access to known Government thinking about the site.
Central to Eveleigh - Common Themes and Issues
The 2013 Preliminary Consultation Report identified nine key themes from those consltations. We have reproduced these below for easy reference. The June 2014 focus groups captured some of this and added in the ATP into six areas on which they are seeking further comment. Some issues and details from the 2003 themes were not carried through to the June 2014 discussions including Community Participation.
Central to Eveleigh Consultation Report Online
UrbanGrowth's Central to Eveleigh Urban Renewal and Transport Program has posted the report of their consultation late last year with community group representatives. You can see this report on the UrbanGrowth website through the link provided below. Below is an email from the new Program Director which summarises the common thesemes in the report. The Central to Eveleigh Urban Renewal Area Baseline Analysis undertaken by UrbanGrowth should be posted in the near future.
Millers Point Social Housing Support Minute by the Lord Mayor

Sydney Uni expands on plans
Sydney University is seeking approval for a 68 per-cent increase to its Camperdown-Darlington campus floor space by the end of 2020. This will accommodate a 21 per-cent increase in students on the campus as well as 4,000 units of “affordable” student accommodation, reports Geoff Turnbull in the March 2014 edition of the South Sydney Herald.

Planning changes to Central Park
CHIPPENDALE: The Central Park development opposite the University of Technology, Sydney, looks set for further changes. North Eveleigh Affordable Housing Approved
The Department of Planning and Infrastructure anounced on 25 October 2013 that the application for affordable housing on North Eveleigh had been approved. The Department also advised that they had amended the North Eveleigh Concept Plan to allow the building to increase in height to 7 storeys. The details of the media release are below:
