Alexandria Park Community School in Partnership
The Schools in Partnership
initiative recognises that educational success is a team effort.
As well as focussing on
reinforcing essential skills in literacy, numeracy and technology and fostering
an enthusiasm for learning, the initiative also encourages mothers, fathers,
uncles, aunties and the wider community to play a part in the students’
education. When everyone gets involved we see a big difference in the way
students succeed.
As part of Phase 2 of the
initiative, next year Alexandra Park will join 29 other schools across the State
that that are taking up the invitation to develop a whole school commitment to
striving for equal educational outcomes for Aboriginal
students.
The Iemma Government is
working hard to improve outcomes for Aboriginal students through the $65
million-four year indigenous education plan. Schools involved in the initiative
receive between $100,000 and $400,000 per year in additional funding to help
them set and achieve annual targets for improving literacy and numeracy results,
school retention rates and school attendance.
If a school reaches their
annual targets, they can access a further $50,000 to help them achieve even
better results and higher standards. Improvements in educational outcomes for
Aboriginal students benefit us all.
The Schools in Partnership initiative commenced in September 2005 as part of a key partnership agreement between the Department of Education and Training and the NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group Inc (AECG), and with the support of the NSW Teachers Federation, the NSW Primary Principals Association, Secondary Principals Council and the NSW Federation of Parents and Citizens Associations.
