Redfern setting complements Goot's minimalist style

MANY of Sydney's fashion set discovered Redfern for the first time when they swarmed on the suburb's CarriageWorks railway complex for the Josh Goot show this morning reports Georgina Safe and Edwina McCann in the Australian of May 03, 2007.

The designer presented his signature streamlined silhouettes in the industrial setting  - which was perfectly suited to showcasing his minimalist sportswear-influenced styles - on the fourth day of Australian Fashion Week.

New season additions came in the form of Roman draping at necklines and on backs, and capes in varying lengths that trailed the designer’s urban warrior women.

"The silhouettes are more refined and also diverse,” said Goot. “We are getting better at putting our collections together and also updating a lot of our signature pieces, such as the jersey trench and the silver racer back tank.”

Rendered in viscose, polyamide and elastene blended knits, the new palette included vibrant blues, fuschias and buttercup yellows enlivened with shots of gold and silver mesh.

Styled by Mark Vassalo from Harper’s Bazaar, the show attracted a front row including New York model Erin Wessem, who will tonight walk the runway for Ksubi, Myer ambassador Jennifer Hawkins and Westfield’s retail leasing manager David Ruddick.

They were among 600 guests who thankfully left without AFW’s ubiquitous goody bags generally crammed with nothing more than pamphlets, press releases and other forms of landfill, although models were given their handmade gold boots (girls) and Nikes (boys) to take home.
