Historic Rachel Forster Hospital

I read with interest the story about the Rachel Forster site (SSH February ’08) Writes Neil Whitfield in a letter to the South Sydney Herald of April 2008.

What is not mentioned is that this is where Dr William Redfern’s house stood until the late 1930s. According to Judith Eland’s South Sydney (1975) “the old well from Dr Redfern’s house is in the hospital’s basement, and some of the stones from the old house have been used in the foundations”.

Remnants of Redfern’s garden are still in the grounds. A site of interest indeed!
