Marton Gardens Mosaic

The large and brilliant mural mosaic is located at the Waterloo Green Marton Gardens area, which is between the high rise social housing buildings, bringing new colour and life to the area. The project was sponsored by the City of Sydney and the NSW Department of Housing and was coordinated by the Waterloo/Redfern Housing Communities Assistance Program (HCAP) (a community development program) at the Factory Community Centre, in partnership with many community organisations in the area. Young and older residents have worked together on these projects over the last 9 months - from designing, to creating, and installing the project with over 348 young people and 363 adults taking part at various stages of the project. Waterloo Green Action Plan

The Waterloo Green Action Plan arose in September 2007 from the Safety Audit of Waterloo Green. The RWA and the Human Services Plan ISOG members had made a commitment to implement the Action Plan which aims to improve the physical and social amenity on and around Waterloo Green. The NSW Police Aboriginal Strategic Direction (ASD) 2007 - 2011 sets out the NSW Police procedures for working in areas with sizable aboriginal communities. Redfern was one of the LACs where the document is to be implemented. The new ASD follows from the earlier 2003-2006 ASD and was released in August 2007.

On 16 May 2007 the RWA placed on display plans for remediation of the Blacksmith Shop and its future use as a mixed facility permitting its use for parking, markets and as a performance space. During consultation some issues were raised concerning the DA and the RWA Amended their DA by letter on 23 August 2007. The RWA then re-exibited the DA from 12 September to 04 October 2007.

Redfern Legal Centre Memorandum on Ministerial powers on MAC appointments

The Morgan Disney Review of Human Services in Redfern Waterloo set out to map the Human Services in the area. The review came up with around 200 services. This was many more than the number of services that local service providers said actually operated in the area. In her report back to the Community Services Sector Helen Campbell on 16th August 2007 provided a list of 34 services as a more realistic Redfern Waterloo Index of Services. File is MSWord 106 Kb.

HSMAC NGO Report Back - 16th August 2007

Helen Campbell the Executive Officer of Redfern Legal Centre made a formal report back to Redfern Waterloo service agencies and local residents on 16th August 2007 regarding her involvement on the HSMAC and the RWA's progress in reforming human services. The report back followed Minister Sartor's decision to drop Helen from the RWA Human Services Ministerial Advisory Committee and not to have a formal representative of local Non Government Service providers on the HSMAC.

The following submission was made to the Review of Tourism in NSW by the Rail Tram & Bus Union. The submission recommends "NSW Tourism has a role to play in researching and identifying details of the railway heritage and cultural tourism assets and providing an overview which adds to an understanding of unlocking the potential value of these assets to tourism and the NSW economy".
