- Social Impact Scoping and Assessment for Redfern Waterloo - Focus Group Information Sheet Text
- The SMDA and Consultants GHD are undertaking Focus Groups in February 2012 on Scoping for a Social Impact Assessment. This is the Focus Group Information Sheet intended for participants. Currently this is the only written information available from the SMDA about the Scoping for the Social Impact Assessment and hence REDWatch is making it available for the information of the broader community. The SMDA welcomes feedback from individuals, organisations and other stakeholders on key issues which they would like considered in the relevant study by the SMDA.
- University of Sydney statement re Frank Sartor
- According to Frank Sartor in his 2011 book "The Fog on the Hill - How NSW Labor Lost its Way"(pp118-123) Kristina Keneally, as Planning Minister, devised a plan to 'compensate' Sydney University for its `loss' of the Callan Park opportunity by offering it the North Eveleigh site in Redfern, which had been prepared for tender. Sartor makes further claims that he was told that Sydney University were only prepared to pay $30m for the site while the site was worth $100m. Sydney University was asked to comment on Sartor's comments for a South Sydney Herald article in 2012 and below is the full text of their media statement of 31 January 2012.
- Community to Have Say on Aboriginal Affairs Policy - Redfern 24 Jan 2012
- On December 14 2011 Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Victor Dominello MP opened community consultation for the development of a new Aboriginal affairs strategy for NSW. To help the public get involved in developing the strategy, Community Discussion Papers on service delivery, education and employment have been released, as has a schedule of public community meetings across NSW reports this Ministerial media release.

- ELEANOR HALL: Plans to redevelop the once-notorious Block in inner-Sydney are being welcomed by the people who live there. The Block in Redfern was once one of the nation's most feared addresses - an epicentre of crime and substance abuse. But it was also the heart of Sydney's Indigenous community and when authorities finally tore down the housing, its loss was mourned. The World Today's Adam Harvey went to The Block to ask locals what they thought of plans to build flats, a childcare centre and an art gallery. - USyd Abercrombie Precinct Development - December 2011 stakeholder briefings Report
- In late November and early December 2011 Sydney University held briefings with more than 10 various organisations and stakeholder groups ov er their reworked thinking about the University’s Abercrombie Precinct development. A summary of the key points raised at the briefings and community workshop are provided below. These points have also been forwarded to the project design team, to be considered in the revised project design. The University expects to have a revised concept plan completed by the end of January and will arrange a follow up briefing in early February to present this new plan and get feedback, before it finalised and lodged with the Department of Planning and Infrastructure. To assit in understanding some of the comments we have included a photo taken of one of the sketches used at the consultation.
- Housing NSW Masterplan takes Shape
- Housing NSW have released the reports from their planning workshops in November as the basis for the next round of discussions. The separate reports for Redfern and Waterloo include details of what came out of the workshop and a summary at the end of the “Ideas for Improvement”. This summary and the accompany map shows what Housing NSW believe the community wants where. Below we have extracted the summary findings of each report top make them easily accessible. - City Moves to new Village Hubs & Seeks Community Input
- The City of Sydney Council has divided the City into 10 village Groups in line with the proposals first outlined in 2008 in the Council's 2030 Strategy. The new Redfern Street "village group" includes the suburbs of Chippendale, Darlington and Eveleigh as well as Redfern west of Chalmers Street / Redfern Oval, Waterloo north of McEvoy and west of young Street as well as Alexandria north of Buckland and Copeland Streets.

- Good neighbourhood vibes
- Two recent events organised by the Waterloo & Redfern Events Working Group and partner agencies (including The Factory Community Centre) were well attended and highly successful. - REDFERN: The Big Issue, which next year celebrates 15 years of service and social enterprise in Sydney, is now well ensconced in Little Eveleigh Street.
