Stolen banner trumps Christmas Banner Competition
The Eveleigh Farmer’s Market was alive with festive cheer and celebration on Saturday, 10 December 2011 with Life for Koori Kids winning the top prize for their vibrant and creative entry in the Market’s annual Christmas Banner Competition.
The children were ecstatic with their win after almost missing out on entering the competition. Their banner went missing the day before it was due and Life for Koori Kids coordinator Ailsa Gillett spent a frantic 24 hours trying to put a new one together. Miraculously their original entry appeared on her doorstep a day later, allowing them to get their banner in on time - and win the top prize!
Parliamentary Secretary and member for Port Stephens Craig Baumann presented Life for Koori Kids with a $1000 award and announced Darlington Public School as the winner of the People’s Choice Award, who was also awarded $1000.
Mr Baumann congratulated the winners on their original and creative works and praised the local schools and youth groups from inner south and inner western Sydney who took part for their contribution to creating a fantastic community and festive atmosphere at Eveleigh Market.
