Kinchela plan for healing

Called Kinchela Boys Home Strategic Plan, after the notorious home in Kempsey where Aboriginal children were sent after being taken from their families, it is the first comprehensive plan for Stolen Generations in NSW.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the Prime Minister’s historic apology to the Stolen Generations in February last year was a turning point and a new beginning in our relations with the First Australians.

“The process of healing and reconciliation will take another step forward with the launch of the Kinchela Boys Home Plan,’’ Cr Moore said.

From 1924 until 1970, between 400 and 600 Aboriginal boys, as well as a number of girls, were forcibly removed from their families and placed in the Kinchela Boys Home.

The harsh treatment, brutal punishment, deprivation and sexual abuse they suffered were documented in the Bringing Them Home Report.
