The Plans for Redfern Waterloo That Do Not Exist and Some Consequences Revealed in SMH

The attached articles were published on Monday November 29 2004 in the Sydney Morning Herald Pages 1, 8, 9 & 15. Those meetings with the Minister and Premiers Department Officials have been told that there is no plan for what the government is planning to do however the material in todays paper has confirmed what everyone expected – that the Government has very clear plans for what they want to do in the area and that the uses of some of their powers will reach much further that they have previously indicated.

Those concerned to limit some of the Ministers powers should contact the Liberal Party and Cross Benchers of the Upper House as any change will have to be made from them and they are presently unconvinced that there is enough community concern to justify amending government legislation.

Redfern Legal Centre has produced a briefing paper on the Redfern Waterloo Act so that people can understand its implications for them. The Redfern Legal Service is prepared to speak to interested groups about the legislation and its implications for Redfern Waterloo.
