Aboriginal Organisations Make Joint Statement on Proposed Redfern Waterloo Redevelopment

Major Aboriginal Organisations in Redfern issued a joint Media Statement today under the Redfern Organisation of Aboriginal Unity. The statement was supported by the Redfern Waterloo Chamber of Commerce and REDWatch. The statement came from a meeting held on Tuesday to discuss how the communities could work together to address their common concerns about the Bill before Parliament and the recent revelations about the plans the government has explored. Rally Against The Government Imposed Plans Monday 6th December at 10am Waterloo Green’

A Rally will be held on Monday 6th December at 10am ‘Waterloo Green’ (between Matavai and Turanga) between Phillip and Raglan Streets, opposite George Street, Waterloo. The towers are one of the areas that are being considered for redevelopment according to reports in the Sydney Morning Herald. The rally is being organized by REDWatch (contact Trevor Davies 04 0000 8338, Ben Spies-Butcher 0414744758), Redfern Organisation of Aboriginal Unity (contact Shane Phillips 0423605236), The Inner Sydney Regional Council for Social Development (contact Charlie Richardson 9698 7461) and other concerned individuals and groups. The Rally will be held the day before the Redfern Waterloo Authority Bill is scheduled to go to the Legislative Assembly.

Planning Institute of Australia (NSW) Media Statement on Redfern Waterloo Bill

PIA (NSW) has released a letter in regard to the announcement of the Bill. This letter has been sent to Ministers Carr, Knowles and Sartor, and members of the Legislative Council. A press release has been issued to the media click on the link to view - - Press release

RWPP Community and Agency Meetings on Human Services

Morgan Disney will hold four Meetings between 15th and 17th December for the Partnership to report back on the Review of the Human Services System in Redfern-Waterloo. A brief notice has been posted on the RWPP website see Invitation to Community Meetings (pdf 76kb) and a Fact Sheet on the Human Services Review should be posted soon. The details of the meetings are:

Community Meetings will be held Wednesday 15 December 5.30pm – 8.00pm and Thursday 16 December 2.00pm – 4.00pm

Meetings for Management Committees / Governance will be held 16 December 9.30am – 12.30pm or 5.00pm-8.00pm

People working in human services will be invited to as session on Friday 17 December 9.30 to 1.at the Redfern Community Centre

South Sydney Herald Christmas Party 4pm 5th December Skybar Redfern

If you have read it, written an article for it or spent hours distributing the South Sydney Herald you are invited to join the South Sydney Herald at the Skybar, George St (opposite Redfern Post Office), Redfern at 4pm 5th December. For a donation of $5 food will be provided and drinks are available at the bar. Trevor says you will have a good time and you may be surprised at who you will meet, as we end what some would say has been a sad and miserable year where things may get worse before they get better.

REDWatch supporters are also avid SSH readers and at the last REDWatch people decided to attend this end of year bash rather than do something themselves. So see you there.
