The following letter was issued by the three resident groups in the area under the banner of The Millers Point Community Defence Group following the the anouncement.

·         The Millers Point, Dawes Point & the Rocks Public Housing Tenants’ Group

·         CoRE (Community of Residents)

Dear Resident,

You will have received a letter from Housing NSW saying that all the housing properties in Millers Point are to be sold.  This is a devastating announcement but please remember that you are not alone.

The residents of this area will work together to convince the government that the decision to sell all the properties is wrong.  We have already been promised support from the Independent Member for Sydney in the State Parliament, Alec Greenwich, Sydney City Council, Maritime Union of Australia, the Australian Labour Party (NSW) and the Greens.

Dealing with this terrible decision will take some time.  In the meantime we must all be strong and resolute and look after one another.  Your local organisations are banding together to present a united front to the Department.

In the coming days efforts will be made to move the residents out one by one.  When you are approached, you will be asked to have an interview to discuss your preferences for moving.  We feel strongly that no resident should agree to an interview until we have legal advice on how to proceed.

Below are the names and telephone numbers of people whom you can ring if you need advice, support or help:

John McInerney (RAG)     9698 5985     Robin Hall (CoRE)  9247 9004 (after hours)

Barney Gardner                  0421 107 121

You are not alone!

Times like this remind us how lucky we have been to live here.  Let us all fight to keep that good fortune!

Residents are asked to attend a meeting called by the Local Member Alex Greenwich and the Lord Mayor Clover Moore in the Abraham Mott Hall on Saturday 22 March, 2014 at 12.00 noon.
