Project Profile Central to Eveleigh Urban Renewal and Transport Program

The Central to Eveleigh Urban Renewal and Transport Program extends south from Goulburn Street in Sydney’s CBD to Macdonaldtown and Erskineville Stations.

AMBITION

The Central to Eveleigh Urban Renewal and Transport Program is about transforming the rail corridor from Central to Eveleigh, including Central and Redfern Stations, public open space and the Australian Technology Park.
A broader study area will include part of the adjacent suburbs of Surry Hills, Redfern, Waterloo Darlington, Chippendale and Ultimo.
Extending the Sydney CBD around Central and Redfern Stations will contribute to Sydney’s growth as a global city. The program will connect existing vibrant and diverse suburbs by integrating new commercial, retail, residential and educational development along with public domain and parkland in and around a revitalised public transport system.

OUTCOMES AND BENEFITS

The renewal opportunity will:
  • provide housing choice for over 20,000 residents
  • create over 10,000 new jobs
  • deliver improved public transport infrastructure including world class upgrades at Redfern and Central Stations
  • create enhanced public spaces linking the neighbourhoods of Surry Hills, Chippendale, Redfern and Newtown
  • create a vibrant and attractive southern Sydney CBD end of Central Sydney, linking the Chinatown, convention centre and university precincts
