Winners of the Railway Short Film Competition

“Winner of the Inaugural Railway Short Film Competition held as part of the Open Day at the Eveleigh Heritage Workshops and Australian Technology Park was John Mannion from inland South Australia, with his touching documentary - Last Train, a documentary on the ripping up of an historic rail link at Terowie in South Australia” Tom Cowan President of the Eveleigh and International Railway Film Society and Co- ordinator of the short film competition said in this media release of 2 March 2012.

“For this he will receive the first prize award of $500 donated by the NSW Branch of the Rail Tram & Bus Union. Second place went to Mohammad F. Jafari from Iran for a film titled Train Moments, a poetic tracing of Teheran’s rail system. The winning places of the competition were determined by an audience vote of 42 people who viewed that section of the Inaugural Eveleigh and International Film Festival”. 

Thirteen contemporary and heritage railway related screenings were shown in the two  theatres as well as several lectures and seminars.  Shown in a third hall, the short films attracted a large audience who loudly applauded their appreciation the films.  

The Railway Film Festival was seen as a great success by the organisers of the film program .This being the film festivals inaugural event, next year will be to be bigger and better. Already there have invitations from Launceston and from Port Augusta to screen the film festival in conjunction with their Rail Heritage activities later this year.
