John Watkins MP Deputy Premier Minister for Transport comments on Eveleigh
...
I have noted your concerns about the future of the Eveleigh site, and in particular the desire to see a Rail Heritage Museum established there. With the introduction of the Redfern Waterloo Authority Act in 2004, any surplus Government lands within the boundary identified in this Act must be transferred to the Authority for urban renewal purposes.
With respect to the North Eveleigh site owned by the State Rail Authority, I am advised that this land (except that which is identified for the new Performing Arts Centre) will be transferred to the Redfern Waterloo Authority. The Performing Arts Centre is an example of adaptive re-use of the Blacksmith's Workshop on the site. The South Eveleigh site is the subject of a master planning process by RailCorp to determine future operating railway requirements for that site and again any surplus land will be transferred to the Redfern Waterloo Authority.
The core moveable heritage rail assets located at North and South Eveleigh have been identified and will be relocated appropriately.
