Roy Wakelin-King - Biography

Roy Wakelin-King was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of the Redfern Waterloo Authority on 16 February 2009. Below is some background information on Roy Wakelin-King provided by the RWA.

Prior to his appointment at the RWA Roy was the Deputy Director General of the Office of Public Works & Services with the NSW Department of Commerce. 

Roy was also the Chief Executive Officer of the World Youth Day Co-ordination Authority, which coordinated the effective delivery of Government services in support of the highly successful World Youth Day 2008. 

Roy has been an executive director within the NSW Ministry of Transport in the position of Director, Transport Operations Division.  This role involved the leadership and management of a multi-discipline division that coordinates the delivery of essential public transport services for the public of NSW. 

Roy has extensive experience in both operations and project leadership, particularly in the fields of transport and logistics.  His experience includes a short Army career as a commissioned officer, followed by a series of very senior project and operational appointments within the NSW Government.  During his time in the Army, Roy saw operational service in Somalia as part of the multi-national forces delivering humanitarian and security aid to that country.

January 1993 to October 1997 - Senior Operations Manager, Army Movements and Transport Agency Sydney 

From July to December 1993 - Roy was part of a small Australian Army contingent in Somalia that was part of the United Nations multi national force called UNOSOM II. His contingent was responsible for transport coordination of military and humanitarian people and goods in, around and out of Somalia.
