RWA OPERATIONAL AREA

The Redfern-Waterloo Authority was established under the Redfern-Waterloo Act 2004 on 15 December 2004. The Authority has the sole responsibility for revitalising the Redfern-Waterloo area through planning and urban renewal.

STATE SIGNIFICANT STIES

What has been determined to be State Significant development?
The State Environmental Planning Policy (State Significant Development) 2005 (SEPP) has declared certain sites within the Redfern-Waterloo Authority as being State Significant, as identified by the SEPP Schedule 2 Map 16.

State significant development is development that the Minister for Planning has determined is of state or regional significance, and will therefore require his consent.

These State Significant sites in the Redfern-Waterloo Authority operational area include the following refer to the attached map[pdf ~5.02mb]): -

  1. North Eveleigh Precinct
  2. South Eveleigh Precinct
  3. Eveleigh Public Housing
  4. City West
  5. Australian Technology Park (ATP)
  6. Eveleigh Street Precinct
  7. Redfern Railway Station
  8. Gibbons - Regent Street Precinct
  9. Redfern Public School
  10. Redfern Police Station / Court House
  11. Rachel Forster Hospital

A copy of the State Significant SEPP can be found on the NSW Government legislation website and located under the tab marked "Environmental Planning Instruments in Force (ie Principal State Planning Policies and Regional and Local Plans)"

DEFINITION OF DEVELOPMENT CONSENT AUTHORITIES

What development needs the Minister's consent?
The Minister for Planning is the consent authority for State Significant development. The Redfern-Waterloo Act 2004 allows the Minister to transfer his consent role functions to the Minister for Redfern-Waterloo. As soon as these delegations are made, this website shall be updated with relevant information on Development Application procedures and forms.

Development Applications for State Significant sites or works are currently lodged, processed and assessed by the Department Planning.

What development needs the Council's consent?

The City of Sydney Council is the consent authority for development and/or works on all other land not identified as State Significant within the Redfern-Waterloo Authority operational area. Development applications for these proposals are lodged, processed and assessed by the Council.
