TJ Hickey’s death site to be stripped by upgrade
The fence on which Redfern Aboriginal teenager Thomas ‘TJ’ Hickey was fatally wounded may be removed as part of a planned upgrade by Housing NSW reports Angus Thompson in City news of 16 April 2009.
Clarification by CoS on Future of Community Safety Plans in Redfern Waterloo
REDWatch has raised concerns about the failure of the CoS to impliment the recomendation from the Evaluation of the Redfern Waterloo Community Safety Plan which calls for Council and the community "to decide what needs to be done from now on”. The Issue was raised at the March 2009 Redfern Waterloo Community Forum. The response below was received from the CoS in response to follow up correspondence to CoS CEO and Deputy Lord Mayor Marcelle Hoff. REDWatch continues to seek discussion between Council and the community about a Redfern Waterloo specific follow up to the Redfern Waterloo Community Safety Plan which Council now considers completed.

Redfern Waterloo Issues Discussed with Minister Keneally
On 14th October 2008 Geoff Turnbull, in his individual capacity as a community member active on Redfern Waterloo issues, met with Minister for planning and Redfern Waterloo Kristina Keneally. What is happening in South Sydney?
We know South Sydney has always been a happening place, but there is so much going on at the present time, that we have decided to give ISV readers a snapshot on the latest situation. These changes are rolling along and peak at different times so unless you are in the middle of it, it is hard to keep up - that is, until the place suddenly looks different. Driving down Regent Street today, suddenly there is a set of metal spikes sticking up from a surrounding fence - it can't be left over barricading from World Youth Day, so it must be a sculpture that must have been in a plan somewhere - but who can keep up? Sorry state of public housing – What’s going on?
