The Back to the drawing board campaign
In mid May 2016 the CEO of the City of Sydney Council produced a report to Council regarding the City’s concerns about densities proposed by Urban Growth Central to Eveleigh especially that proposed for Waterloo and a proposal to create a State Significant Precinct wider than the government owned lands in the corridor. You can view that report Sydney Council revealed in May 2016.
The Council went public with their concerns and UrbanGrowth responded. You can see some of that discussion in The Fifth Estate’s article Battle of Waterloo as UrbanGrowth and City of Sydney trade blows on density.
Council called a public meeting on 15 June 2016 entitled Packed In – bad planning vs smart growth. The future of the Central to Eveleigh precinct.
At the forum they launched a “Back to the drawing board” post card campaign urging its residents to send the cards or other messages on the matter to Planning Minister Robert Stokes. You can download a copy of the postcard here - Back to the drawing board postcard PDF
At the public meeting the City’s planning Director Graham Jahn went into considerable detail about how the densities proposed for Waterloo compared with other sites and why the City were so concerned. You can hear his presentation below and here you can see the presentation slides from the Presentation by Mr Graham Jahn - File is 22.6 MB PDF.
Thanks to the South Sydney Herald REDWatch has received recordings from the meeting and is making these available so those who were unable to attend can hear what was said by the speakers.
