Thank you for taking the time to attend this week's community meeting regarding the proposed installation of an automatic syringe dispensing machine at the Redfern Health Centre.
It is clear that a tremendous amount of energy and hard work has gone into improving the amenity of Redfern, and you, as a community, care passionately about its future.
The meeting again provided a valuable forum for residents, business owners, police and other stakeholders to voice their support or concerns regarding the proposal, and to take an active role in addressing problems associated with injecting drug use in the Redfern-Waterloo area.
I would like to assure you that all issues raised were noted and will be carefully considered by Sydney Local Health District.
We are committed to working with the community on this issue, and will continue to liaise with you to find solutions to your concerns.
At the community's request, we have already appointed a liaison officer to assist those residents dealing with multiple government agencies and services. And we expect to be in a position to install a new automatic syringe dispensing machine on site at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital by the end of January.
As recommended, we propose another public meeting to be held on Tuesday, January 29 at 6pm at the Redfern Health Centre to further discuss the proposal, and any potential options for the location of the machine.
Please advise of your availability by contacting Amanda Kassis on 9378 1300 or amanda.kassissswahs.nsw.gov.au.
An independent facilitator will be appointed for the meeting.
Thank you again for your valuable feedback and we look forward to working with you in the new year.
Yours sincerely
Dr Teresa Anderson Chief Executive
