To give everyone a chance to participate in this, Redfern Legal Centre is hosting a community event. Your ideas and comments will be sent to the National Human Rights Consultation. The Tom Bass Sculpture Studio School and Community of St Vincent’s Church Redfern are inviting public comment on a memorial to the shared work Fr Ted and Mum Shirl. The presentation with model and photographs will take place at the Block. The sculpture is abstract in expression and presents the spirit of Mum Shirl and Ted Kennedy through connecting hands. Their lives exemplified the best of the Australian spirit. They worked to establish a society where justice, dignity and freedom could be enjoyed by all citizens, whether Aboriginal or settlers.

The Developer of the Redfern RSL site at 157 REDFERN STREET is Proposing a Mixed Use Development on the site (including a new 1 st Floor RSL Club) in a 18 storey building. Prior to submitting plans to the Department of Planning they are holding two Community Information sessions on 3rd June. The main session is at 7pm at Redfern Town Hall but there will also be a session at 4pm on the Block at the Redfern Community Centre.

19 young people, with a strong interest in landscaping and horticulture work, will graduate from a hands-on course, which took place in Waterloo and involved the refurbishment of a large garden, and paved recreation area at one of the local high rise buildings - Daniel Solander on Pitt Street. The students will graduate with a TAFE-accreditation in landscaping competencies in Certificate 1 Access to Work and Educational Opportunities.

The New RedWater Community Markets will be held on the 3rd Saturday of each month at Redfern Park. These community markets are sponsored by the City of Sydney as part of a local community action plan and are organised by the Housing Communities Program at the Factory Community Centre in partnership with Surry Hills Neighborhood Centre and others. All monies raised from the stall holder fees for the markets are injected back into supporting local environmental community projects such as the Waterloo Recycling Workshop. As the market is part of local community action on climate change, the focus of the market (though not exclusively) is on sustainable goods which are handmade, recycled, or second hand, and are environmentally friendly. This is to assist in the reduction of waste strategies of the City of Sydney Council. However, all good sold must be of reasonably high quality.
