Clover Moore response to Waterloo South Lodgement

Clover Moore responded to the announcement of the Waterloo South lodgement on Facebook on 1 June 2020. The text of the post is below.

The NSW Government has lodged its plans for the redevelopment of the first stage of the Waterloo Housing Estate.

Over the coming months, our staff will rigorously assess the proposal.

Once the proposal has been reviewed, it will go on public exhibition, so you have the opportunity to provide feedback to the designs – all of which will be taken into consideration by Council before making our recommendation.

Our priority is ensuring development respects the character of the area and maximises the amount of social and affordable housing on the site. We will ensure all voices are heard, particularly current Waterloo Estate tenants and the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

We will also advocate for the essential wrap-around services that our current and future Waterloo communities need to thrive.

As we begin economic and social recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic, the Waterloo Estate redevelopment offers the opportunity to increase the amount of social and affordable homes in the inner city, while also boosting jobs in the construction sector. We want to make sure both outcomes are achieved.

I commend the State Government on their action to support our vulnerable communities during the outbreak of Covid-19 and look forward to working with them over the coming months to ensure this redevelopment continues to put these communities first.
