Redfern upgrade call

Redfern railway station needs an urgent upgrade to cater for the people with disabilities, a coalition of disability and community groups says writes Jacob Saulwick in the Sydney Morning Herald of 19 March 2012.

The groups will this morning launch a campaign to see lifts installed at Redfern station, one of the busiest points on Sydney's train network, yet one with extremely poor disabled access.

The Lift Redfern campaign will aim to collect 10,000 signatures and force a debate on the issue in Parliament.

The campaign will be launched this morning by the Disability Discrimination Commissioner, Graeme lnnes, the Lord Mayor, Clover Moore, the acting vice-chancellor of the University of Sydney, Stephen Garton, Sydney Greens councillor, Irene Doutney, and community members.
