Minister's Panel on CUB Site

On June 21 2006 Mr Sartor "appointed an expert advisory panel to work with residents and the developer to optimise design.” The panel will be chaired by Chris Johnson from the Department of Planning, and includes: Michael Collins, Chair of the Heritage Council NSW; Neil Bird, Deputy Chairman of Landcom; and Lucy Turnbull, former Sydney Lord Mayor. This section deals with the activities of the Minister and the expert advisory panel following the Minister calling in the CUB site from the city of Sydney.

The Coalition Chippendale Community Groups meet with Minister Sartor and Chris Johnson the Chairman of the Expert Advisory Panel the minister has established to make recomendations concerning the CUB site. The report has been taken from a "News Update" produced following the meeting.

Members of Coalition Chippendale Community Groups have been invited as panel members on the Stakeholder Reference Panel for the CUB site. Two meetings are scheduled with the first meeting on Tuesday 8 August 2006. CCCG's are looking for feedback on the issues that are important to you so they can be flaged as part of the process. The file is some notes off a flyer issued at the August 2 community meeting. On the rear are some issues highlighted, which you may have concerns about. Responses are need by Monday 7 August Evening. Panel member included locals and representatives from some of the education institutions locally as well commercial interests and government authorities but Department of planning are not happy for privacy reasons to make the names public. For those who couldn’t make the [Expert Panel Public] meeting 15th October 2006 - the image attached gives you some idea of one of the images we saw - it shows the skyline looking at Chippendale. We’ve tried to outline the type of massing being considered vs. UTS building which is there now. The reaction around the room was one of shock and disbelief - described by some in the room as a “mini Manhattan” in Chippendale - there was also a great deal of frustration about way the meeting was conducted, the lack of information and misinformation.
