North Eveleigh Parks - Invitation to Contribute to Design by 17 December 2012

Two new parks of 3,350sm and 445sm are being proposed for the Newtown end of the North Eveleigh site. In an area where there is a low proportion of open space per capita it is very important to design these parks so that they meet the needs of those in the surrounding community and those visiting Carriageworks and the Eveleigh Markets. Locals are encouraged to make their thoughts known on what should happen with these parks.

The SMDA is designing two parks at the western end of the North Eveleigh site. In accordance with the North Eveleigh Concept Plan, an application for the development of the parks must be submitted. This must occur prior or concurrently with the first application for new floor space. A private consultancy firm, AECOM, has been appointed to progress the design and submit this development application to council. The SMDA is looking for community input until 9am 17th December 2012 on what people would like in these two new parks. Details on how to provide input are below.

The delivery of these parks are not funded and construction of the parks will be linked to future development of the site. The DA will however determine what is supposed to be built at a later date. It is proposed that the western most park will be designed as one park but delivered in two stages as Railcorp make the section near the railway line available for development.

The entrance park near the western entrance has already been designed and is funded. You can see details of that park at Landscaping for Park near North Eveleigh Western Entrance.

The SMDA held an information stall at Yaama Dhiyaan on 24 November 2012 to invite feedback from the community. The flyer for this session contains details of the new location of the parks - Park Consultation Flyer. For the information session the SMDA also produced some Park Consultation Material which contain further information about what is proposed on the site and the feedback that might be useful for the park design.

You can contribute to the design:

  • Online by doing the Survey Monkey on the SMDA’s North Eveleigh Parks Community Survey

  • In writing or submission to the SMDA at North Eveleigh Project, Sydney Metropolitan Development Authority, PO Box 1198, Strawberry Hills NSW 2012

  • By Email to Kerrie

All feedback and submissions must be received by the SMDA before 9am Monday, 17 December 2012

A development application will then be prepared for the parks. This will be lodged with the City of Sydney. The City of Sydney will publicly exhibit this application and the community can make further submissions on the park design at this time.
